My name is Frank Wall and I used to dream about being in the best shape of my life, just like you.
I was born in Brazil but have been living in the U.S. since I was a young child.
Fitness was never a passion of mine growing up. I was an overweight kid who had a bad relationship with food. Then again, it was a “good” relationship because I ate so much of it!
I ate so much that playing soccer on a daily basis didn’t help me at all. While all my friends could eat whatever they wanted, the thought of food would practically make me gain weight.
I remember being picked on and ridiculed by other kids about my weight.
The kids in school called me “fat ass”. Now, imagine hearing that for the first time as a 9 year old!
This left my self-esteem in shambles and made me feel completely worthless. To be blunt, I went home every day feeling like shit!
By the time I was a teenager, I graduated from being overweight to being full-fledged obese.
I remember when my mom took me on a trip to Brazil; it felt like she packed the tightest swim trunks for me!
We were all sitting at the pool with my entire family and I felt miserably out of shape with 3 chunky rolls of stomach fat hanging over my swim trunks.
The family pictures took on that trip are forever etched in my mind. Till this day, I can’t bear to look at the young, beefy version of myself. Embarrassing is an understatement for how bad that made me feel.
I became really depressed and dreaded going to school because I hated the way I looked.
My dad sensed that my weight was getting out of hand when I argued with him at a pizza buffet about how 7 slices of pizza WASN’T enough!
During the argument, he brought up the time when my babysitter informed him that I threw up trying to eat a whole medium pizza by myself! I clearly had a problem.
My dad was now aware of my unhappiness with my weight and my obsession for junk food. So, he decided to drive me to my grandparents’ house where we found his old weight training set he used back in the 60s.
He started training me and showing me the ropes about weightlifting. The weights were very rusty but they still worked!
I wasn’t training at a top-of-the-line commercial gym, but it was a start!
From there, I took a weight training class in high school BUT was still fat. My nutrition sucked and no amount of training was helping.
Over time, I immersed myself online and read fitness magazines to find different ways to lift weights. As my knowledge grew, I started applying everything and was working out several times per week.
But my body wasn’t changing much at all because I had no nutritional guidance and was still eating like a careless, chubby teenager.
